The new Detective Comics starring Batwoman has been a runaway success in my eyes - but perhaps not in sales - and that is in large part to the amazing collaborative effort of writer Greg Rucka and artist JH Williams III. We've got a look at Detective Comics #857 for you, which releases this Wednesday, September 23. If you haven't been reading this series, hopefully taking a gander at Williams' gorgeous layouts will convince you to cough up the $3.99. But don't forget, you'll also get the Rucka-written Question co-feature.

The new leader of the Religion of Crime, Alice, is a genuinely creepy first adversary for Batwoman in her new starring role. As you might recall from the issue previous, Batwoman's father - and Alfred Pennyworth-type back up - has been taken into captivity by the Religion. But is it just a ploy to lure Batwoman into their grasp, or something far more sinister? Intriguing, no?

Buy the damn book.
