There have been mutterings of a new Gail Simone project for quite some time, and now we know what it is - she'll be writing The Movement with artist Freddie Williams II, which tackles the theme of the Occupy Wall Street efforts of the 99%.
“The Movement is an idea I've had for some time,” Simone said. “It's a book about power -- who owns it, who uses it, who suffers from its abuse. As we increasingly move to an age where information is currency, you get these situations where a single viral video can cost a previously unassailable corporation billions, or can upset the power balance of entire governments. And because the sources of that information are so dispersed and nameless, it's nearly impossible to shut it all down.”
Hand in hand with that will be The Green Team, a book from writers Art Baltazar & Franco Aureliani (Tiny Titans, Young Justice) and artist Ig Guara that examines life for the super-rich in the DCU, and just what that means.
“The real question is: Can money buy you anything in the DC universe? Would it make you powerful? Can it make you a hero? Can money make you…Super?” Baltazar teased.
“If you had unlimited wealth, could you use that to make the lives of people better? Would you help your fellow man? Would you buy powers? You need to read this and find out,” added Aureliani.
The Movement hits on May 1, while The Green Team drops on May 22, and I'll be picking up both books, for sure. This COULD turn out to be an oversimplified look at very complex ideologies, but we trust in Gail Simone to do justice to social issues in general. This could be fascinating.
