So I must admit that before reading this comic book I had really no contact with the Battlestar Galactica universe, but then by the end of the issue it seemed like I couldn’t get enough; I was researching it on Wikipedia, trying to find episodes and even considering spending more money than I have to buy the first season. So if all this was inspired by a single comic book issue then for those who are already fans of this series might just die of happiness upon reading it.

The first issue Kicks off with a look at Aerilon in the past and we find a young Gaius Baltar on his farm holding the head of a Cylon and his brother yelling at him telling him to fix it later, showing his skills at such a young age. As quickly as this sequence comes however it is gone, and we find ourselves two years before the fall of the colonies, on Caprica, and Samuel T. Anderson shows up with a beautiful young lady whom you never really feel right about. As the story continues we see the death of a character, then a pretty intense meeting between Captain Rourke and Baltar where he gets named the director of the Command Navigation Program. As well as a fun little scene of Baltar being seduced by the young pretty blonde who is yet to be named but I am almost positive is Number Six from the series.

The most interesting part of the series is the interspersing flash backs we see of Baltar’s past on his little farm world, and seeing the life that he had to escape to become who he is. To me the past history of a character is what always gets me so involved with the character and Battlestar Galactica Origins is doing just that. Never being a fan in the past I will admit that I was a tad lost at first but soon I made sense of everything going on, and if you are someone who has always wanted to get into this story but never have I would say that this is the best jumping point you can have.
