Batman: The Brave and the Bold

Throw Back to the 70's?

By Aaron Seaney
Batman heads back to the small screen in this all new animated series, The Brave and The Bold.

With all good comic book movies there will be a cartoon based on the character to follow; whether it is a Spider-Man cartoon on MTV, or a crappy anime Transformers cartoon that was released last year after the Michael Bay Blockbuster. However these cartoons don’t always have to suck, for example “The Batman” which ran for a couple of years after the release of Batman Begins, as a matter of fact, there never was really a “bad” batman cartoon. However this fall, cartoon network could very well prove us all wrong with their premier of Batman: The Brave and the Bold giving us a look at a whole new kind of Batman.

The Cartoon will be based off of the old comic book, and will feature Batman teaming up will several “Super friends” such as Green Arrow, and the Blue beetle…..yep, those are the two “heroes” I named. This will give Batman the whole Super Friends meets the old 70’s show feel. Of course all we need now is a good ol’ POW! Symbol every time Batman hits a bad guy. Now what makes this cartoon “even better” is the animation, because why would we want to ever go away from anything American Anime? So yes, this cartoon will feature the same style of animation as every other cartoon they’ve made since 2002. And in case you aren’t quite pumped enough you can read Cartoon Networks description of the show below.

“Batman isn't going at it alone this time! From Warner Bros. Animation comes the latest interpretation of the classic Batman franchise. Our caped crusader is teamed up with heroes from across the DC Universe, delivering nonstop action and adventure with a touch of comic relief. Blue Beetle, Green Arrow, Aquaman and countless others will get a chance to uphold justice alongside Batman. Though still based in Gotham, Batman will frequently find himself outside city limits, facing situations that are both unfamiliar and exhilarating. With formidable foes around every corner, Batman will still rely on his stealth, resourcefulness and limitless supply of cool gadgets to bring justice home.”

it doesn't matter which characters they use, the animation from what we've seen points to the fact that it looks like johnny bravo in a batman mask, which can never be good my friend.

You're probably right, but I think that DC has a good enough track record when it comes to animation, to at least hold out hope. Also the picture of Blue Beetle is that of Jaime Reyes, the new one. That also gives me some hope. I have a hunch that the Green Arrow they'll use is Connor Hawke, which would be interesting as well.

Why I will say that the petition for the link above is amazing and I signed, the issue at hand is Batman.....this cartoon will suck, and I honestly can't believe someone like Dante, whom I hold in the highest regard amongst comic book readers, would think that this is going to be awesome. Exhibit A. The picture.....they are using the logo from the Adam west days....shudder shudder all around. Exhibit B. Green Arrow and Blue Beetle?!? Gross. Exhibit C. Green Arrow and Blue Beetle?!? Gross. And Finally, after I have seen how a DC Comic can be handle with respect, (i.e. New Frontier) I will say that this is the exact opposite of that.

I'll take that bet, because Teen Titans sucked, The Batman sucked, and Transformers Animated sucks. "American Anime" is the one thing that's actually crappier than Anime itself.

This is the polar opposite to the other new superhero cartoon coming out, Wolverine & the X-Men, which actually looks really good. Where the new X-Men show looks like some actual time and effort was taken to make it, the Brave & the Bold looks another quick and cheap way to make a few bucks on toys.

five bucks says this show is awesome, even if Green Arrow is in it. Even though having him makes things look grim.
