So, here we are, the second issue of Secret Invasion sits on my desk, finally after all this waiting the series to beat all series is in its second issue.
What do I think so far? Well, so far so good. The heroes of both Avengers teams are stuck in the savage land again and this time there is a ship full of Skrull imposters that think that they are the real heroes, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
This whole Secret Invasion mess kicked off in the pages of The New Avengers when the team ended up in the savage land trying to track down a bunch of escaped criminals from a prison called the raft. Fast forward a year and things have come full circle in a way because the heroes of both Avengers teams are now stuck in the Savage Land faced with a ship full of Skrull copies.
Aries tries to get the rest of the Avengers to bug out and let him deal with the Skrulls but that wouldn’t be any fun, soon enough fighting breaks out only to be interrupted by an attacking dinosaur (it’s the Savage Land remember). What’s a bit surprising is that almost all of this issue takes place in the Savage Land making the story feel kind of small, like this is only really affecting the Avengers.
There is a great scene featuring Mockingbird and Clint Barton, she manages to convince Clint that she’s not a Skrull and also cast doubts about a great many things. Is she who she says she is? If so was anyone else who got off of that ship not a Skrull? If Mockingbird is the real deal, how many other heroes are locked away somewhere? Hopefully these questions will be answered soon.
