Welcome back to the Book Report. This week we have plenty of comic book movie news to get you excited about going to the movies for years to come, literally. We even have a rather bizarre story coming out of the UK, enjoy!
Tom Cruise has expressed interest in the starring role for the comic book adaptation of ‘Sleeper’ by Ed Brubaker (Death of Captain America). The rumor has it that Warner Bros. parent company to DC Comics wants to turn Sleeper into the next big franchise.
And they say Comics aren’t educational, one such book has become all the rage in prison, which makes sense considering that the book features tips on how to smuggle drugs. Convicted drug smuggler Anthony Spencer and his son collaborated to write ‘Him &Hers Smuggling Vacation, a book that features tips on how to well, smuggle.
Rumor has it that The Watchmen may be on hold because of a lawsuit that may be pending between FOX and Warner Bros. Apparently FOX is suing because they believe that they have the rights to produce the film and not Warner Bros. The film is already in the can, so sad.
Word around the camp fire has it that The Greatest American Hero is on its way to a comic shop near you. Star of the show William Katt has a comic book company called Catastrophic Comics which will produce the monthly title based on the popular TV series from 1981. The series will be here fall of 2008.
Good news for Punisher fans, Steve Gainer the films cinematographer says that the director Lexi Alexander is not off of the film nor will it get a PG-13 rating. Gainer said that such a rating will be impossible to achieve. So there’s hope for War Zone yet.
Screenwriter Justin Marks is working on two comic related projects, Green Arrow: Escape from Supermax and He-Man. That’s according to MTV.
