CraveOnline: Speaking of awards, what was your reaction to Battlestar winning the Peabody award?
Katee Sackhoff: That was pretty amazing. I mean, I’m absolutely shocked. Like, completely shocked. Lana, the publicist, told me about the Peabody and then there is also the Saturn Awards on the same day. And I’m like, "Hmmm. Which one is more important?" But, it’s such an amazing honor. We’re right in there with South Park! So, no, it’s very cool. Everybody is really excited and hopefully we’ll get to go to the lunch on May 5th. I was shocked, but I wasn’t because I wasn’t surprised that Battlestar is finally getting the recognition that it deserves.
CraveOnline: Are you guys frustrated it hasn’t reached a broader audience?
Katee Sackhoff: Occasionally, it’s a little frustrating sometimes, but I think that right now it’s like our little personal secret. It’s also kind of cool for the fans as well, because the fans who are really diehard fans sort of like the fact that people really don’t know what it is? It’s not like the water cooler show that everyone is sitting around talking about it, but it’s really nice. I think being on Sci-Fi, the network has been so great in terms of the topics that we discuss because we push the envelope a lot of the time. I think if we were on NBC we wouldn’t get away with things like that. So, I think everyone in the cast is happy we aren’t on NBC because we’d get cancelled after a week. There is no way. We wouldn’t get the ratings. And we all know that, so we’re happy on Sci-Fi.
CraveOnline: Have you swapped convention war stories with Nathan at all?
Katee Sackhoff: Separated at birth!
CraveOnline: Do you ever run into crazed Battlestar fans who are upset that Starbuck is played by a woman now?
Katee Sackhoff: Occasionally. There are definitely fans out there who are still purists and they don’t want anything to do with Starbuck being female, but you can’t win them all. So they are missing out. It’s a well-written show and if you want to sit here and compare the two characters, you can’t. They may have the same names, they may have some of the same habits, but for the most part, it’s not even the same character. So if they want to talk stuff about me that’s fine. I’m developing a very thick skin.
CraveOnline: Hypothetical, who would win in a fight? Malcolm Reynolds or Starbuck?
Katee Sackhoff: Who is Malcolm Reynolds? You like that? Ah, I’m just kidding. Probably me. Yeah. Maybe. He’s bigger than I am.
