America's Last Phone Booths: A Traveling Spotlight

We Joey DePaolo to go on a two-week tour of America's phone booths. He actually said 'yes.' What a doofus!

By Joey DePaolo

When CraveOnline approached me to write a cross-country travel log of the last remaining phone booths in America, I was overwhelmed by the magnitude. It was just the project I needed to get my life back together.

I understood that my place on the writing staff was in jeopardy, especially after my admitted recent struggles with the bottle, the rock, and women that you pay for. But this assignment provided me with an opportunity to put all of those things in the rearview mirror. A trip on the road documenting a piece of America’s history. She rolls right off the tongue.

So Crave editor Dave Schilling sent me off with a two-week itinerary including seven key cities to hit along the way.

I hope to dazzle you with sights of the American landscape, shown through vessels of communication from a period of time that has long since expired. What follows is a log of this country’s final phone booths.
