If you are a college educated, liberal minded fellow like myself, you are probably a fan of McSweeny's. For the uninitiated and unclean, McSweeny's is the brainchild of noted San Francisco author and screenwriter of Where the Wild Things Are, Dave Eggers. Eggers runs a publishing company and a franchise of learning centers for youth interested in literature. The center in San Francisco, called 826 Valencia (after the street address it sits on), looks something like this: |

Looks like a fun place to learn about iambic pentameter...or a great spot to lure unsuspecting children if you're a raving pedophile!
That's beside the point though. McSweeny's is the literary journal of Eggers's publishing empire. The pages of the journal have been home to some truly fantastic talents, such as Michael Chabon, Joyce Carol Oates, Michael Cera...
Wait, did I just type "Michael Cera"? As in, this guy?

Apparently, the above is worthy of being published in a serious book of letters. Despite this massive oversight, it is not easy to get a piece in McSweeny's. Ask anybody. There is a wealth of material out there that just wasn't quite good enough to make the cut. Thanks to a few well-placed connections at the journal, I was able to get my hands on the best of the rest. I feel privileged to be able to finally share these forgetten gems with the cultured, educated audience here at CraveOnline.
These are mere excerpts, as it would be too unwieldy to post full stories.
