By Nathan Jordan
Without trying to sound too conceited, I consider myself a pretty decent guy. I have a good job. I’ve heard that I’m above-average in the looks department. I have a sense of humor and two college degrees. I’m also not afraid to talk to women, and as a result I date often. Like everyone else who dates regularly, I have dates that just don’t work out. Maybe there’s no chemistry, or my date and I don’t have much in common. I would say, however, that I have more good dating experiences than bad.

But time after time, no matter how good the date is going, something inevitably happens that causes the girl to clam up or simply leave altogether. I just can’t seem to figure out what it is about me that suddenly freaks girls out. After a lot of brainstorming, I think I’ve finally narrowed it down to two possibilities:

It’s either my dog or my collection of Disney Precious Moments figurines.

Neither possibility makes much sense to me. My dog, Henry, is well-trained and very adorable. I can’t understand why girls wouldn’t like him. Maybe there’s just a lot less “dog people” in the world than I think, and I need to accept this.

How could a woman hate this precious face?

An even less likely scenario is that girls get upset about my collection of Disney Precious Moments figurines. I know; it sounds completely ridiculous. In fact, I wouldn’t have thought of it at all, except that the “freak out” always seems to come after I show my dates my second bedroom, which, like the second bedroom of any hot-blooded bachelor, is filled with Disney Precious Moments figurines. For some reason, the moment my dates see the airbrushed “Fantasy Land” sign on the door, they get nervous. Then again, my dog is always following us around, so that could be the issue.

How could a woman hate this precious moment?

What woman doesn’t love Disney? Now combine that with a woman’s second-favorite thing, Precious Moments, well now that’s just awesome all bottled up in a can of outstanding. You’d think I’d get major points with whatever chick I’m with, even if my dog is panting at her. But no, my date always gets quiet, and then comes the inevitable, “I think I left something in my car.” I know what that means; it means she’s not coming back.
