The Sand Diego Comic–Con was buzzing with Iron Man news, as hundreds of fans crammed into the open Marvel booth just to get a sneak peek at the amazing Iron Man ‘mark 1’ suit that will be featured in the movie. Jon Favreau was on hand for most of the day to indulge the fans’ curiosity about Marvel’s latest big screen comic book transition. Along those lines, other Iron Man related news that concerned Favreau was also revealed to the eager fans.
Favreau and Iron Man artist Adi Granov are collaborating on a new mini-series titled: IRON MAN: VIVA LAS VEGAS. Granov had been deeply involved in the making of the film and decided to ask the Iron Man director if he would be interested in working on a comic. According to Tom Brevoort, Executive Editor at Marvel, the story will sort of fit into Marvel continuity, “ We’ll be releasing this project under the MARVEL KNIGHTS banner, which means that it’ll stand apart from contemporary continuity as a stand-alone evergreen story.” Typically used to working with such literary talent as Warren Ellis, Granov has had to take a different approach with this project based simply on the work load, “This is a different project for me because I am much more involved with every aspect of it as opposed to being given a fully completed script.” Granov stated.
The Iron Man movie looks pretty good at this early stage, and if it ends up being as good as it seems then this comic title should also be a worthwhile venture for comic readers. With the success of Reginald Hudlin on Black Panther, Kevin Smith with Daredevil and even Richard Donner writing Superman, there’s plenty of reason to get excited about Jon Favreau throwing his hat into the comic book writer ring.
