NYCC 2010: Supergirl Creative Team Shake Up

Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle leave the series after a respectable run.

NYCC 2010: Supergirl Creative Team Shake Up

The Girl of Steel is getting a creative team change up starting in January, when longtime showrunners Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle will step down to make way for writer Nick Spencer (Morning Glories, Jimmy Olsen co-feature in Action Comics) and artist Bernard Chang (Superman). Spencer is quickly showing his chops for writing teenaged heroes in his aforementioned titles, so he should feel right at home on Supergirl and will hopefully continue the building of a new rogues gallery that Gates had begun. Chang has been a "go-to" guy for some time now, contributing arcs on Superman and Wonder Woman, so he’s a great fit as well.

Assistant Editor on Supergirl, Will Moss, said “How do you follow a character-defining run like Sterling and Jamal had on Supergirl? Beats me – that’s Nick and Bernard’s problem! But if anyone can do it, it’s these two guys. Get ready for a deadly new version of an old threat (one with ties to Geoff Johns and Francis Manapul’s run on Adventure Comics), and a laundry list of guest stars – the promo piece doesn’t even show half of ‘em! So while Supergirl the character has never been in more trouble, rest assured that Supergirl the title has never been stronger!”

After being in an on/off relationship with Supergirl since it launched, Gates and Igle kept me buying the book monthly. Hopefully Spencer and Chang can keep it afloat as well.
