Dark Horse Comics announced today a partnership with national newspaper USA Today and electronics giant Toshiba to publish exclusive, all-new content across various mediums from print to digital television. Dark Horse plans to showcase their top properties from the best creators, bringing their comics to a broad new audience. Last year, USA Today ran a successful program for DC Comics' Wednesday Comics, featuring excerpts of the series in their nationally published newspaper.
Dubbed Dark Horse: Hi-Def, the program launches today with a special look at Janet Evanovich's graphic novel Troublemaker in today's USA Today. The program will continue to showcase Dark Horse material at the San Diego and New York Comic-Cons, followed by exclusive-to-DH: HD content in October.
“USA Today is excited to be partnering with Toshiba and Dark Horse on this innovative program. It’s a terrific example of how USA Today can take exclusive content and turn it into a compelling cross-platform reader experience,” said Susan Lavington, senior vice president of marketing for USA Today.
Maria Repole, vice president of communications for Toshiba, said “As a leader in home entertainment built on Toshiba’s rich 130-year history of groundbreaking technologies, we are proud to associate our products, including our new LED HDTVs and Blu-ray Disc players, with the compelling and legendary Dark Horse brand. This truly exciting campaign will help Toshiba build a connection with a passionate group of consumers eager to experience fresh content in innovative ways.”
As for Dark Horse themselves, president and publisher Mike Richardson said “As an entertainment company, Dark Horse prides itself on pushing the boundaries with groundbreaking creators and content. We're excited to continue this tradition by showcasing some of our most exciting stories in this all-new program with these great partners."
Dark Horse has long been striving to push their brand into new realms, and it's great that old school print publishing is still an effective marketing tool for the comics industry. Stay tuned to CraveOnline for the latest news from Dark Horse Comics!
