Marvel Comics revealed today that come this May, the entire Marvel Universe will be undergoing an overhaul of attitude. After spending the better part of the past decade shrouded in relative darkness, from Avengers Disassembled to House of M to Civil War and through Dark Reign, it seems the powers that be at the House of Ideas (or Disney, perhaps...) want to return the characters to their classic unified ways, with a "renewed sense of hope and optimism".
“Our heroes have experienced some of their greatest trials and tribulations recently, but now there’s going to be a renewed hope among their ranks,” said Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada. “As our heroes emerge from the darkness, the Marvel Universe is going to be a more optimistic place than we’ve seen in a quite awhile. But that doesn’t mean we’re making things easy for our characters!”
At the center of The Heroic Age will be the expected; Iron Man, Captain America, the Avengers - and according to the Senior VP of Sales & Circulation David Gabriel, "If there's a Heroic Age banner on one of the books, we're serious when we say 'the Marvel Universe Starts Here!” Just as importantly, names included in the press release include Brian Bendis, Ed Brubaker, and John Romita Jr., so I think it's safe to say this reborn Marvel Universe is still in great hands.
