By the end of the business day today, just in time for the New Year, Marvel will officially become a subsidiary of the company that makes dreams come true, Disney. Back in August, the Disney/Marvel purchase was announced, but Marvel Entertainment shareholders gathered yesterday and voted on the merger, which garnered majority vote and thus was sent on its way to becoming officially official.
There haven't been any plans announced for the Disney/Marvel relationship or its impact, if any, on Marvel's comic book properties, but I think it's a safe bet that with the monetary powers that be behind them, Marvel's adaptations will see a significant rise in production.
Marvel is currently the #1 American comic publisher, and surely the acquisition by Disney isn't going to slow things down. 2010 might just shape up to be quite the year for Marvel fans. Or, the end of self financed, studio-free adaptations of Marvel properties. Only time will tell!
Happy New Year!
