Hey there dear reader and welcome to the season finale of Versus! If you’ve been reading this weekly column then you know by now that it isn’t really about who would win in a fight between fictional characters (that’s geeky and lame), instead we tried delivering a funny, and interesting way to spotlight certain characters that you might not be familiar with. Like Deadpool, and the suddenly black Nick Fury. I seriously hope that I’ve entertained you these past weeks, and that you’ll enjoy our last entry Cable Versus Magog. Let’s just get to it shall we?
So why end with Cable and Magog? Because Cable is one of the more important characters in the Marvel universe that you might not know much about. He also represents a strange time in comic book history where style was valued over substance. A lot of work had to be done on Cable in order to make him work in the long term. Magog on the other hand was created based on Cables character design. They both have the same features and so on, but are they the same character? The short answer is no, and we’ll see why when we pit these two head to head!
The Tale of the Tape:
Powers: Cable is the son of Scott Summers and woman named Madelyne Pryor, they were also known as Cyclops and The Goblin Queen a clone of Jean Grey. Infected with a techno virus as a child, Cable was sent to the future where he could be treated for the disease. Returning from a dark and twisted future Cable uses his considerable powers to physically keep the virus in check that has claimed his arm, most of his chest, and half his face. Cable is a seasoned war veteran with access to weapons, time travel, and more weapons.
Magog
Powers: Magog is also known as Lance Corporal David Reid, and was originally created as a metaphor for the generational gap between the old and new. Magog was modeled after Cable to represent the modern day ‘hero’ that was seemingly replacing the classic heroes of yesteryear. Because of that I think Magog’s skill set is rather basic and not as important as the character himself. Magog is fueled by plasma, he has a staff like Cables that allows him to fire energy bolts, he also has strength and endurance.
