According to Newsarama, DC is set to, at long last, give its oft-directionless Superman/Batman a new purpose. Previously written by Michael Green and Mike Johnson, that team is off the book for good with issue #63 - last month's issue - and the series is now heading into a few months of fill-ins. After that, however, fans will see a new direction given to this title that is pretty unique, and certainly more exciting than the series has been in some time.
Instead of taking place outside of normal DC Universe continuity, the series will instead go back in time to events of DC's past - Dan Didio, Executive Editor of DC mentions "Emperor Joker" and "Our Worlds at War" specifically - and expand upon Superman and Batman's role in those stories. More specifically, Superman/Batman will focus on tying those old events into the continuity of today's DCU.
"Those stories will fit within continuity even more tightly now because they're written with the current DC Universe in mind," says Didio. "We have a lot of great events in the DC Universe that these two characters participated in."
This is surely exciting to continuity hounds who thrive on being able to plot out a linear time line of their beloved comic book universes. At the very least, those of us who dropped Superman/Batman a long time ago will once again have a reason to add a bit more Clark and Bruce to our monthly diets.
