Versus: Nova against Booster Gold

This week’s Versus is dedicated to those heroes that work behind the scenes and don’t get the fanfare they deserve. The best examples I could think of for this battle royal were Marvel Comics’ Nova and DC’s Booster Gold. Both are B-List heroes that don’t always sell books like they should. Both Nova and Booster Gold have really strong books right now that you should be reading. Maybe if the two beat the snot out of each other that might get you out to the comic shop, well that’s the hope anyway.

The Tale of the Tape:

Booster Gold

Powers: Booster Gold is the quintessential lovable loser; a former athlete from the future Booster stole his super powers from the future and came back to the past to cash in on being a costumed hero. It wasn’t until recently that Booster actually became a consummate hero that was in it for all the right reasons. Booster’s suit can generate a force field, fire energy bolts, fly, and increases his strength.

Weaknesses: Doomsday. Time Travelers. The Joker. Booster doesn’t have a super weakness; instead he’s shown that certain villains simply have his number. The suit has its limits and doesn’t always perform the way he wants it to.

Nova

Powers: Nova recently underwent a considerable power boost as his body and mind play host to the Worldmind. The Worldmind is a long story to be certain so just suffice to say that the Worldmind houses an entire culture within itself and is the driving force behind Nova’s powers (super strength, flight at incredible speeds, extreme durability, and gravimetric energy blasts). Nova is also considered the Prime Nova Centurion and is the leader or the Nova Corps.

Weaknesses: His ego, green women, and giant living planets. Thanos. Being a cosmic level adventurer Nova often goes up against some of the most powerful villains in the galaxy. He doesn’t always win, but his record is more than respectable.
