So I was talking with a friend of mine when the conversation made its way straight to geeksville. We started going back and forth about who would win in a fight, Doctor Doom or Darth Vader Lord of the Sith. I know that’s really geeky but it did inspire me to make a new feature for Crave called Versus. Once a week we’ll pick two characters and see who would win in an all out battle. This week’s bout pits two of comic’s most reviled characters, the tragic Darth Vader versus the treacherous Dr. Doom.
The tale of the tape:
Darth Vader
Powers: Vader has complete mastery of the Force and can use it in a myriad of ways. From choking a victim to death to lifting heavy objects and hurling them at an opponent everything in the room becomes a weapon for Darth Vader. The former Anakin Skywalker also employs a lightsaber, a beam sword that can cut through just about anything and deflect lasers. Due to robotic enhancements Vader can move and fight at incredible speeds with unmatched strength and ferocity. Vader is also an expert in robotics and piloting spacecraft.
Weaknesses: Vader is trapped inside what is basically a mobile iron lung, without his containment suit he would die from injuries suffered at the hands of Obi Wan Kenobi, the greatest Jedi of his age.
Doctor Doom
Powers: Dr. Doom wears a suit of armor that is capable of several things; it has a force field, electric shock generator and energy blasters for starters. The suit is designed to allow Doom to function both in outer space and under water. The suit also augments Dooms strength and agility making him super humanly strong. Doom also incorporates magic into his arsenal and is a mage on par with Dr. Strange the former Sorcerer Supreme. Doom is also extremely intelligent with knowledge across the scientific spectrum.
Weaknesses: Under his armor Doom is still a mortal man and if the suit can be beat, then he can be beat as well. His ego also tends to be his undoing.
Argument #1: Doom Bots
The first scenario plays to the idea that Doom wouldn’t actually put himself in a dangerous or life threatening situation, he would send Doom Bots to do his bidding. The problem is that Vader is one with the Force and could easily detect that Doom was simply a robot. Having built C-3P0 as a child (an incredible feat when you think about it) Vader could easily dispatch a group of Doom Bots using the force.
Winner: Darth Vader
Argument #2: Magic
Bravado and posturing are the things that set bad guys apart from good guys, and when two bad guys meet there is plenty of both. If Doom could get Vader to start talking instead of swinging his lightsaber he might have a chance using magic against the Lord of The Sith. AS we said earlier Doom is no slouch when it comes to magic which is how he outclasses other armored characters like Iron Man. For all we know Darth Vader too is susceptible to magic and could be felled if properly distracted. There just isn’t any guarantee that Doom could distract Vader long enough, but assuming he could, magic might win out in a battle.
Winner: Dr. Doom
Argument #3: Fisticuffs
Dr. Doom likes to avoid fighting directly unless he overmatches his opponent or is really pissed. Even when fighting Doom rarely throws a punch, preferring to destroy an opponent with a well placed energy blast or missile. Darth Vader on the other lives for battle, it’s truly all he has to look forward to and he’s good at it. There is nothing in the Star Wars Galaxy worse than Darth Vader swooping down on you with his lightsaber ablaze, just ask the wookies of Kashyyk.
In a head to head knock down drag out Doom would have plenty of tricks but would be no match for Vaders intensity and utter hatred of pretty much everything. The lightsaber would be the difference maker in a one on duel because Doom is outmatched when it comes to skill.
Winner: Darth Vader
