Coming in the month of August 2008 DC Comics, along with Sierra Entertainment will be publishing a comic book through their Wildstorm imprint entitled PROTOTYPE. The book will be based on an open world style video game of the same name.

The game itself sounds very promising and is from the makers of Simpsons Hit & Run. Centered in 2008 New York you character you control and the assumed star of the comic is Alex Mercer, a mutant who has the power to shapeshift. Using the modern backdrop, and giving the character an assortment of super powers is a novel idea to say the least. It will be cool to have the option to either walk the streets of NY hiding among the people, or crisscrossing the roof top and alleyways using your super powers.

"PROTOTYPE is all about shape-shifting action, and we’re using that key element to redefine the open-world game space," said Al Simone, Sr. VP of Global Marketing, Sierra Entertainment. "Another key feature setting PROTOTYPE apart from other open-world games is its incredibly deep, conspiracy-based back-story, and by joining forces with the largest comic book publisher in the world – DC Comics – we can bring this new anti-hero and his tale to an even wider audience of comics fans and gamers alike."

Wildstorm Comics has a great stable of books as is, with books like Authority, and Gen 13. There’s no question that the tone of the comic will match the tone of the game, and nothing about this game seems cheesy. We’re talkin’ political conspiracy’s, and bad ass special ops guys that are all pointed at you the player.

"We’re blown away with what Sierra and developer Radical Entertainment have shown us of PROTOTYPE, and know with absolute certainty that this will make for a terrific comic book," said Hank Kanalz, VP & General Manager, WildStorm. "PROTOTYPE’s back-story, visuals and gameplay are stunning, and we have every intention of bringing those core pillars to our book because this is a great opportunity to expand on the world they’ve created, and build something new and interesting for comics fans."

PROTOTYPE will be shipping to stores this fall.
