The story follows Billy Butcher, the leader of the group who has a grudge against super heroes due to the savage death of his wife and child. The actual culprit of the brutal murder has not yet been revealed but the despicable nature of The Boys adversaries (a seeming mock JLA called the Seven) points the reader in their direction. Along with Butcher are Hugh Campell (whose character is purposefully drawn to look like British writer/actor Simon Pegg). Mothers Milk is the second in command. The Frenchman is one of the original members, The Female of the Species is the resident mute femme fatale, and Mallory is a former member turned researcher of the weaknesses of super heroes.
“I’d like to thank all concerned at both DC and Dynamite for making this such a smooth and civilized transition,” Writer Garth Ennis said in a recent press release, he also went on to add, “My priority now is to get back to work on The Boys.” He also intimated that he is excited about the opportunities the series will gain by moving to Dynamite (publisher of the Army of Darkness books, Xena Warrior Princess and many others) but still looks forward to many years with DC comics. Artist Darick Robertson is still under exclusive contract with DC but will get special dispensation to continue working on The Boys. Robertson feels that this deal has been a ‘win win’ situation for all parties involved and is glad that they can move on ‘still smiling’.
The Boys #7 will go on sale from Dynamite in June 2007.
