NYCC Day 3: Smaller Press News

IDW, Dark Horse, Image, all the folks who ain't the corporate megoliths! New York Comic Con has news.

Judge Dredd Mars Attacks

Here's what's shakin' for Saturday newsbits from New York Comic-Con 2012, to be updated as the day goes on.

- David Gaider will be doing a new Dragon Age series for Dark Horse, who will also publish a Dragon Age Encyclopedia, and Mass Effect's Blasto will get his own digital one-shot story, too.

- Neil Druckmann and Faith Erin Hicks will handle adapting the video game The Last Of Us to a comic for DH as well.

From CBR:

- Mars Attacks is going to be crossing over a bunch of IDW one-shots as a tongue-in-cheek way to do a crossover story. Popeye, Judge Dredd, Transformers, KISS, Ghostbusters and more will be involved.

- Andy Diggle will be writing Thief of Thieves for Skybound and Robert Kirkman. A TV show based on Thief of Thieves is in the works, but no details yet.

- Kirkman says "the big R word" between the Governor and Michonne may make it to the TV series, claiming AMC has not shot down many of their ideas for The Walking Dead, and that they'll be pulling no punches.

From Bleeding Cool:

- Image Comics will publish Howard Chaykin's Midnight Of The Soul, Paul Pope's One Horse Trick, and Ales Kot's Zero, as well as reteaming the FF team of Jonathan Hickman and Nick Dragotta for a political piece called East and West, while Hickman will write and draw FBN (Feel Better Now), a book about conspiratorial psychiatrists trying to mess with their patients.

- Image will also have Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky doing a book called Sex Criminals.

- Joshua Hale Fialkov of I, Vampire will be writing The Devilers for Dynamite, with Marc Silvestri doing covers.

- IDW now has a hold of THUNDER Agents, which was most recently published at DC to high praise.

- Fred Van Lente, Steve Kurth, Chuck Dixon and Paul Gulacey will be working on IDW's G.I. Joe books.

- IDW is also planning a big Doctor Who crossover featuring ALL of the doctors. All 11 of them.

- They're also getting Matt Smith, editor of 2000 A.D., to do a Judge Dredd Year One miniseries for IDW

- Vivek J. Tiwary's The Fifth Beatle, profiling Brian Epstein, may be made into a feature film he'll adapt from his own book. He signed a deal with Sony, who controls the Beatles catalog.
