Since JMS has come aboard DC's flagship team-up title, The Brave and the Bold has taken a bold new direction into socio-politcal commentary, lessons in ethics, and obscure character pairings. This month, issue #29 is perhaps the furthest reaching as Batman teams up with... Brother Power the Geek. Cool to see the character active again after such a long (read: long) time, but it's an odd choice to be sure.
Nonetheless, while the first two issues weren't perfect, they did provide a new way to handle team-ups within the DCU, using these obscure characters to bring to light some sort of ethical or moral point from the brain of JMS. In his blog post on the DCU Source blog, he recently stated "And I’ll tell you this much: after this issue, nobody’s going to wonder why on earth I’d use the Geek in a story with Batman. And a lot of those who laughed at the notion, won’t be laughing by the end of the issue."
A bit ominous, but essentially a promise that he'll be sticking to the same formula. The Brave and the Bold #29 hits stands November 18.
