Black Panther #26
Reginald Hudlin: Writer
Francis Portela: Pencils

Man o’ man is the Black Panther cool! He has been ever since Reginald Hudlin penned the first issue. Chock full of political intrigue and deep character development I’ve always enjoyed reading this book. Before I get into issue 26 can I just say that the marriage of He and Storm was such a cool idea. That’s all I got on that really I just wanted to put that out there.

In issue 26 Reed Richards approaches T’Challa and Ororo about leading the Fantastic Four in their absence. I think this adds to the tradition of cool guest members in Marvels first families book, especially since T’Challa and Storm are married now (see how that works). All this takes place as new pressures arise from the US government puts even more pressure on the Wakandan nation. As T’Challa is stretched between dealing with the United Nations and keeping his country under control, the political nature of the book hasn’t been better. I can’t wait for the tensions between Black Panther and S.H.E.I.L.D. to come to a head, the fireworks should be awesome.

I really like the pencils in this issue. Everyone looks good considering that the FF (in my opinion) are difficult to draw well. The colors are nice and the dialogue is translated really well. I’m not that familiar with Portela’s work but what I see here is really nice.

With Hudlin in charge this book could go just about anywhere, and judging from the changes that Marvel is going through I would suggest holding on to your hats true believers. I just hope that the book continues down the promising path that it’s on.
