Five of the X-Men – Cyclops, Emma Frost, Colossus, Magik and Namor – have been possessed by the Phoenix in place of Hope Summers, as we saw at the end of the last issue of Avengers vs. X-Men, and that spells serious trouble for the world.
However, the longstanding Phoenix-haters of the Shi'ar Empire, including their elite Imperial Guard, have joined the fray, as Gladiator's son is one of the students at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning. So they bring the fight to the Phoenix Five, and in the midst of all this, Jason Aaron reveals the history of the Shi'ar warrior known as Warbird.
