I've said repeatedly that the current pair of ongoing IDW Transformers titles are the best the big 'bots have ever had. Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye is in the lead, but Robots In Disguise is no slouch, either.
Normally in RID, the focus is on the newly revitalized (and mostly primordial) Cybertron, and the attempts by the Autobots, Decepticons and unaffiliated mechs to form a stable coalition government in the aftermath of millions of years of war. All sorts of political intrigue and maneuvering. However, we've also had occasional visits with the former Optimus Prime, who has left that title behind and resumed his pre-war identity as Orion Pax. As you may recall from The Death of Optimus Prime, he had become associated with war and nothing but war, despite fighting for peace for so long. Thus, he felt he had to withdraw from Cybertron entirely if there was any lasting peace to be had.
What that means is that he gets to travel the stars on his own and chill out, without the huge burden of responsibility he's shouldered for ages. However, that also means he can get roped into strange adventures, which seems to be the case with this week's RID, due out tomorrow. Pax, his fellow Autobots Hardhead and Wheelie, and their alien pal Garnak are tracking a ship and get drawn into a very weird sort of time-travel loop that looks to reveal some secrets of their past – a big theme of late in both of the TF books.
