In 1942, in the height of World War II, the Japanese invaded New Guinea, the world's second largest island in a strategic location north of Australia, resulting in a battle between the Axis and the Allied forces led by General Douglas MacArthur that lasted until the end of the war itself.
Amidst that conflict in the Southwest Pacific, the nature of the island and its inhabitants, both human and animal, created some unique situations for the soldiers, and that's where this tale from writer Michael Heimos and artist Nick Runge will be focused. New Guinea is Bat Country, after all. Weird things happen in Bat Country.
