Exclusive Preview: JSA Liberty Files – The Whistling Skull #4

This unique version Justice Society of America is now even stranger with The Whistling Skull & Knuckles.

First, there was JSA: The Liberty File, written by Tony Harris and Dan Jolley back in 2000, wherein The Clock and The Owl (aka Hourman and Dr. Mid-Nite) are working with Batman in 1942, and where Jack The Grin (aka The Joker) is smuggling secret information about a Nazi ubermensch, which would turn out to be the manipulated Martian Manhunter.

Then, in 2003, there was JSA: The Unholy Three, which is the moniker the trio eventually earned. World War II was over, but in 1948, both Batman and The Clock are re-activated to deal with rogue KGB agents, but this time, The Owl was replaced with special agent Clark Kent, who turns out to actually be Zod.

Now, we've got JSA: Liberty Files – The Whistling Skull, and Harris is joined by B. Clay Moore on co-writing duties. Still set in the 1940s, back in the midst of the Nazi threat, and we're introduced to a strange new crimefighting duo of The Whistling Skull and Knuckles. Sure, they were slated to be their own heroes before WildStorm was shelved, but now it's a nice way to keep the JSA alive in a classic form, even if they're being reinvented in Earth 2.
