Invincible comics are a lot of things, funny, poignant, heartfelt, exciting, and also a blood bath. In fact I’ve never seen a bloodier book than Invincible. I’m sure they’re out there, but I’ve never seen one. This issue of Invincible is part three of a short series called Conquest in which a Viltrimite named Conquest comes to earth and beats Invincible nearly to death.
This angle has been building for some time now, as several Viltrimites have made their way to Earth or nearby in attempts to take over the planet, some have only issued a warning while others have died or been defeated. The difference this time? Sheer power from the looks of it. Conquest is just simply the most powerful Viltrimite we’ve seen thus far.
This issue is also very tragic, more tragic than I can speak on, you’ll just have to read this book which continues to amaze me with every issue. This issue in particular is uniquely shocking since a very likable character loses their life. It happens so abruptly too, right out of nowhere. This was a book that I used to call funny, but man I think Robert Kirkman redefined the word serious.
Do yourself a favor and check out Invincible #63, but if you haven’t been reading the book, then I suggest you go back and find issue 60 and start from there. There are also great graphic novels to help you get caught up on the whole Invincible story.
