Superman joins the military.

Sometimes it great to be wrong and so far I’ve been very wrong about World of New Krypton. The story isn’t exactly groundbreaking but at the same time the story is very intriguing. How can Superman hope to accomplish anything by joining his fellow Kryptonians? Well the second issue wastes no time in giving Superman something to deal with.

While I thought this story would go along predictable lines, that hasn’t been the case so far. Seeing Superman join the Military guild on New Krypton was an interesting development that put Superman right into the action of the book. There is a lot going on behind the scenes that we’re not completely privy to, like what Zods eventual plans will be, but you can just tell that something is in the works.

One cool aspect is the imminent arrival of a certain Hal Jordan, sent by the Guardians to check up on this new planet that has recently appeared in space sector 2814. I like when books do things that make sense and sending Hal in to investigate just makes a lot of sense.

This book deals a lot with the level of tension that is generated by the current status quo, which leads to a deeper story that is developing in the book. Kryptonian society is broken up into various guilds, each guild performs its task for the greater good, and the only problem is that the guilds are not seen as equals, something that Superman is having a hard time coming to terms with.

Perhaps motivated by Superman’s outlook on things the Labor Guild has decided to do something drastic in order to have their voices heard. The Labor Guild is looked down on or disregarded and they have had enough. Could there be a civil war brewing between the people of new Krypton?

This story has taken Superman out of his familiar trappings but not out of his element, there is still great injustice to be contended with and Superman is always the man for the job. This series is only just beginning but is already showing a lot of promise. I would suggest giving this book a try.
