Star Wars Legacy #31
Vector ends with a whimper.
My first issue with the story is that it was obviously made to impact Legacy first and foremost, with every other series kind of throwing in their two cents as the Muur Talisman moved through their issues. The Talisman is the key to the crossover when it s all said and done and that’s where the disappointment in the series lies.
In the early issues of Vector the Talisman issue had no real bearing on how that series worked out. It got even worse as the series progressed. Too much of the Star Wars history is set in stone making it hard for Vector to be impactful in the middle stretch. By the time we see Luke enter the story we know that the Talisman and the Rakghoul plague weren’t going to pose a real threat and they didn’t. In the end it was a small aside that again had no lasting impact for that part of the story.
Vector could have easily been told within the pages of one book and that book is Legacy. The Muur Talisman makes a huge difference and the stories of Celeste Morne and the rest could have been told in flashbacks. The Muur Talisman was far too easily dealt with in the end further making the multi book format useless.
Celeste Morne also dies rather unceremoniously when it’s all said and done; how come she didn’t just give the Talisman to Cade to begin with is the question I was left asking. In all fairness however the Talisman was instrumental in dealing with Darth Krayt. That was easily the highlight of Vector but again it really only affects the Legacy book.
So where does Legacy stand now? The big bad Darth Krayt is dead and it only took 31 issues to kill him, I wonder what the new status quo will be and also where the book will go from here. The next story arc will be called ‘Fight Another Day’ and its anyone’s guess as to what that is about. What we do know for sure is that the New Sith are still out there on the attack. We know that Roan Fel is still going to have to try and reclaim control of the Empire from the Sith. Odds are good they won’t give it up easily.
All in all the future of Star Wars Legacy looks bright despite that fact that Vector on a whole was a bit of a dud. There are Jedi in the galaxy again and that’s pretty cool. Cade is still a wildcard in all this and that’s cool too. While I’m not 100% sure what’s on the horizon for the book, I think it’s safe to say that whatever they do will be pretty damn good.
