There is a scene in the Knights of the Old Republic 2 video game where a character named Atton Rand talks about the Mandalorian Wars. He talks about the Sterub cities of Serroco and how they were destroyed by the Mandalorians. I finally got to see the tragedy with my own eyes in issue 15 of Knights.
The issue features a young Jedi padawan named Zayne Carrick who has been falsely accused of murdering his fellow students. While on the run from the Jedi Counsel he runs into Carth Onasi (another character from the video game series) and tries to convince him of the impending attack on the cities. At the same time his friend Gryph is stuck in the line of fire as the attack commences.
I love all the attention being paid to this chapter of Star Wars lore. It gives the entire universe the depth and detail that fans have grown accustomed to seeing over the years. It’s awesome to feel like you’re a part of all the mystique by playing along in this epic story.
A lot of fans have also had the opportunity to play the guessing game as to the future of Zayne as he pertains to the overall myth that is the Knights of the Old Republic. Some believe that Zayne will end up being a Sith Lord named Darth Nihilis. What leads them to believe this is the fact that Zayne may or may not be prophesied to destroy the Jedi. It makes sense that fans will believe this since Anakin Skywalker was such a hero before finally falling to the dark side of the Force.
What makes Star Wars so cool is the fact that it’s a study of what war and hardship does to the hearts of men. We get to see the possible fall of an innocent soul as he lives through the nightmare that the Mandalorian Wars were.
Check out this issue, it has a good story and exceptional art. Stay tuned, I’m sure it will be worth it.
Dante Maddox can’t wait until Knights of the Old 3.
