It’s been a while since I got a hold of a new Alpha Flight book, oops I mean Omega Flight. I remember being in elementary school and having my first look at Guardian, and being hooked on comics ever since. Even though they aren’t my favorite heroes, they did start me down the path of being a comic book fan.
The book series has definitely seen its fair share of ups and downs, with characters dying and coming back, a bunch of cancellations and subsequently, countless retooling. No matter how you feel about the series, Marvel never seems to give up on their premier Canadian super team. With a new cast of familiar characters, Marvel seems poised to give the team a try one more time. This time the team is reacting to the ‘Civil War’ storyline with a limited series under the ‘The Initiative’ banner.
We open up with Dr. Walter Langkwotski, better known as the Sasquatch finding out that the Canadian government wants to start a new super team with the help of Tony Stark and S.H.I.E.L.D. It looks as though Marvel is melding the old Force Works with the remnants of some old Alpha Flight members into a new team. The team looks to include U.S. Agent, Beta Ray Bill (not seen in the issue), Talisman, Arachne, and possibly a few others. In the limited series format I’m curious to see where Marvel takes this team, none of the members so far are exactly A-List heroes, I mean, how many Thunderbolts books can Marvel handle anyway?
I hope you like Scott Kolins, my personal feelings on him are mixed. Something just flat out bug’s me about the way he draws, but he has his charms. I do appreciate the way he draws action, and his panel work is good too, but something about the artwork itself makes it hard to take seriously at times.
In the final analysis, Omega Flight looks to be a solid entry into the Initiative storyline. It really adds depth to the overall story that Marvel is trying to tell. And who knows, maybe this will spawn another great Alpha (I mean Omega) Flight run.
Dante Maddox was wondering if Terrance and Phillip would be joining the team anytime soon.
