Issue 8 gives the reader some background into the events that preceded issue one and helps to explain the precarious relationship between the newly reformed Empire and a new breed of Sith lead by one Darth Krayt. The issue is rife with political intrigue that centers on Emperor Roan Fel who is dealing with an internal coup started by Moffs Nyna Calixte and her partner High Moff Morlish Veed. Neither side (Sith or Imperial) trusts the other and their pact is tenuous at best. It leaves the reader waiting for the eventual double cross that makes Star Wars so great. Cade isn’t featured in this issue (or even shown for that matter) but it’s okay because it gives the book that ensemble cast feel that Star Wars made famous.
The artwork for this issue is okay. Dekraker does a real good job with the dialogue scenes but something seems to be missing when it comes to the action. The panel work seems a little stiff at times as well but it’s not too much of a detraction. The costumes are great and I really like how he draws these new Sith. Krayt looks truly menacing. There doesn’t seem to be a regular artist for the series which can be troubling as readers don’t quite know what to expect in all the wrong ways but so far none of the artist that put pen to page have disappointed.
If you’re a huge Star Wars fan then I’m preaching to the choir, but if you’re curious about all things Star Wars then this book is an excellent beginning for new readers and old fans alike.
