The last week was filled with Halloween parties, candy, alcohol and staying out late, which all takes a toll on the body. Needless to say, I’m sure your blood red beet and spinach juice is still not going down as easy as it normally does. Rather than trying to go from 100 to 0 overnight, this Monday detox your mind and body using healing crystals and meditation.
Crystals have been used for decades, some instances dating back to ancient Egyptian and Mayan times. It’s said they can alleviate stress, cleanse your mind, boost creativity, clear blockages in your body and raise levels of consciousness. Though some claim this is a placebo effect, new research is being done to harness the subtle power of crystals as a part of modern day science.“When you’re submerged in the world of texting and social media, it’s easy to become overstimulated. Once you have your crystals, set a timer for 15 minutes and lay down in a clean, comfortable place. Place your favorite crystal on your forehead between your eyes, sometimes called your third eye center. This is directly over your pituitary gland, which regulates the hormones into your blood stream, controlling your weight, sleep, body and stress levels. Once you’re comfortable, begin to breath.
Exhale all the air from your lungs and then take a deep breath in through the nose. When you can’t inhale any more air, hold your breath for 2 seconds and then exhale through the mouth all the way. Repeat this step 5 more times, until your body feels relaxed where you’re laying.
From there, begin to breathe in and out through the nose, counting each breath in and each breath out. Try to count each breath until you reach 10, and then start over. Once you feel comfortable with the breathe, start to imagine each inhale pulling the positive, cleansing energy from the crystals and into your body. With every exhale, you let go of anything negative, stale or grasping.
When your timer goes off, take a second before coming back into your day. Set an intention to keep that positive energy with you, and remember you can always do it again!
People who meditate with crystals say that they can physically and emotionally feel a difference in their bodies. Physically, you may begin to feel tingling or sensations where the crystals are touching your body or notice the stone change temperature. On an emotional level, people can sense more balanced emotions, more focused attention and feeling lighter and more aware than before they began.
Tips Before You Try
It’s so much easier to meditate in a clean space than a messy one! Before you begin, take a few minutes to straighten up – do the dishes, pick up any loose items on the floor and make your bed. It’s easy to get distracted when you’re meditating, especially if you’re new to the practice. By getting rid of potential distraction before you begin can keep you more focused and reduce the risk of that to-do list popping into your head while you’re trying to clear your mind!
