Today, Sony announced a price drop for the PlayStation 3 at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. Effective immediately, the PlayStation 3 will now cost $249.99 from $299.99 (249 Euros, 24,980 Yen). For those who aren’t so hot at math, that’s a $50 price slash. This new price point should make the system more enticing to those who are still on the fence about buying one (Spoiler: you shouldn’t be). This new price point is effective immediately, by the way.

The drop in price of the PS3 is a smart business decision that should move quite a few units this holiday season, especially in light of all the Sony exclusives that are set to release throughout the remainder of the year -- Resistance 3, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, God of War: Origins Collection, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus HD Compilation to name a few.

On top of all the great games that make up the Sony exclusive catalogue, the PS3 is also a fantastic blu-ray player. So if you’re looking to finally buy into the high definition era, the PS3 is a great device to make that commitment with.

So, if you were on the fence about buying a PS3 before, does this new price point change your mind? Let us know in the comments below.
