The big fight is less than a week away. Both Floyd Mayweather and Victor Ortiz have been training endlessly for months; Mayweather trying to defend his reputation as one of the most elite boxers in history, and Ortiz attempting to take down an icon on his way to the top.
The time has finally come for the fighters to face off at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in one of the most media-blitzed boxing matches we have seen in years. But first, good ol' "Money" is headed to Burbank, CA to be the entertainer he has always been.
On Monday, September 12, 2011, Floyd "Money" Mayweather will be appearing on "CONAN", the TBS late night show hosted by the ever-popular late night host, Conan O'Brien.
Some may say that Mayweather should be focusing on nothing but Saturday night, but would that really be "Money's" style. I personally think this is a great idea. Yes, Mayweather is a boxer, but professional athletes at their core are entertainers. Plus, boxing isn't as popular as it used to be, so making a pre-fight performance is not only good for Mayweather, but also to simply promote the fight.
On top of everything, I can't think of a better late night show for "Money" to visit. Yes, an appearance on one of the big three networks might be slightly better, but CONAN is always a lot of fun and will be a perfect fit for Mayweather.
The most interesting aspect about Floyd Mayweather at this point in his career, is the way he addresses the public. For those of you who have followed boxing, Mayweather has always been an outspoken fighter to say the least. Going over and above the standard "fighter talk" before fights, calling out anyone and everyone that breathed the idea of standing in his way. When both fighters came to Los Angeles to announce the epic fight, Mayweather was surprisingly humble. I was taken completely aback. I just didn't know how to process this verbally considerate version of Mayweather. I liked it.
I know I'll be watching "CONAN" tonight, after Monday Night Football of course, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Mayweather brings to the table.
“I am excited to go on ‘CONAN’ and show all my fans my funny side,” said Mayweather. “I hope everyone tunes in and continues to show me love heading into my fight against Ortiz on Saturday.”
Well there you have it. So be sure to check out Floyd "Money" Mayweather tonight on "CONAN"!
The program airs exclusively on TBS, tonight, Monday, Sept. 12 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.
