When "Supernatural" fans last saw the angel Castiel (Misha Collins), he was overcome by multiple Leviathans within his body before he seemingly exploded underwater... an event which set the Leviathans free and seemingly killed Castiel. But death is rarely the end on "Supernatural."
According to Entertainment Weekly, Collins has signed on to return to "Supernatural" in the 17th episode of the seventh season, with appearances slated for at least two additional episodes beyond that. That would bring Collins' total episode count this season up to five, a far cry from previous seasons in which he was a series regular.
However, TVLine has noted that "Supernatural" showrunner Sera Gamble has previously hinted that Collins may not reprise his role as Castiel in his return. Or at least not directly.
“It has always been our intention to bring back Misha in some form,” related Gamble. “We certainly can’t say too much about where the story is going to go, but we love Misha and want to continue to work with him."
In the interim, Collins will make a guest appearance on "Ringer," which is also on the CW network.
The second half of the seventh season of "Supernatural" will kick off on Friday, January 06, 2012. Collins' return will likely air in late March or April.
