You wanna hear something weird? Adam Sandler has never done a sequel, if you don't count a brief cameo in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalow (which isn't something we'd advise). We'd applaud his integrity, if Jack and Jill hadn't ruined that for us. Besides, that may be about to change now that Grown Ups 2 is in the works.
The family comedy about five childhood friends who reunite as - get this! - grown ups quietly turned into Sandler's most successful film, earning over $271 million worldwide. Screenwriter Fred Wolf, who wrote the original film along with several other comedies like Joe Dirt and Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, has been tapped to write a sequel to Grown Ups, according to Variety. The plot is unknown, but we imagine grown ups will somehow be involved.
Sandler, getting high on that integrity again, has not officially attached himelf to the project, and will reportedly wait to determine the strength of the screenplay. Again, this is the guy who made Jack and Jill, so we imagine it shouldn't be too hard to get him on board.
You know, we feel like jerks for ripping on Adam Sandler, who's made some very funny movies over the years like Happy Gilmore and The Water Boy. He also starred in one of the best movies of the last decade, Punch Drunk Love. He's got good movies in him... somewhere... but doesn't seem focused on making them lately. It seems naive to think that Grown Ups 2 make break the cycle, but wouldn't it be nice?
CraveOnline will be back with more extreme optimism when they finally green light Dirty Work 2.
