"Everything on this planet has evolved to kill humans."
It's official. We have reached the stage in human evolution when an M. Night Shyamalan movie will actually hide the fact that it was directed by M. Night Shyamalan. That's what's happened with After Earth, the new sci-fi thriller that stars father-son acting duo Will Smith and Jaden Smith as a father-son survivalist duo, struggling to stay alive on the planet Earth after crashlanding on the deserted planet in the distant future. The first trailer has just arrived (via Coming Soon), and the visual effects look excellent, Will Smith appears to be giving an earnest performance, but we can't help but wonder what the twist ending is going to be. Will it turn out that Jaden Smith is the progenitor of the human race as we know it, and the film takes place thousands of years in the past? Is the twist that it's all an elaborate sequel to Titan A.E.? Or will the twist be that After Earth has no twist at all, like The Last Airbender?
Does anyone want After Earth to be like The Last Airbender?
After Earth opens in theaters on June 7, 2013.
