Baseball Tonight is airing again on ESPN. Temperatures are rising as we near Spring. AMC is playing Happy Gilmore...ahhhh, we're getting so close to Opening Day. Can you feel it?!
My excitement is becoming utterly more unbearable as each day passes. Every year I study for at least two months leading up to my fantasy baseball draft and this year is no exception. While we still have a month of Spring Training to see how a few things pan out, I would like to begin my 2013 MLB fantasy previews by taking a quick look at each division. Where else to start than the AL East?
Robinson Cano, 2B - Yankees - Best second baseman in all of baseball at a weak position.
Chris Davis, 1B - Orioles - In his prime and sabermetrics point to a repeat 30 home run season.
Nolan Reimold, OF - Orioles - Was on pace for a career year before injury in '12.
Who Will Jump Into Stardom
Will Middlebrooks, 3B - Red Sox - Was on pace for 30 homers /.288 average before breaking wrist last year.
Desmond Jennings, OF - Rays - Still only 26, could hit 20 HRs and steal 35 bases.
Matt Moore, SP - Rays - Only 23 years old and had a .301 ERA in the second half of last season.
Manny Machado, 3B - Orioles - Only 20 years old but a big season is in store. Could this be the year?
Curtis Granderson, OF - Yankees - Strikeout rate is alarming.
Ichiro Suzuki, OF - Yankees - Is he too old?
Worth A Late Round Flier
Kevin Youkilis, 3B - Yankees - Switching batting stance. May have a year left in the tank.
Ricky Romero, SP - Blue Jays - Had some bad luck last season, but too young and too talented to not bounce back some.
Star Ready To Rebound
Jon Lester, SP - Red Sox - Stats say he had some bad luck last year. Rebound is imminent.
Brett Lawrie, 3B - Blue Jays - Plays in a hitter friendly park with a monster lineup. still only 23 years old.
Avoid At All Costs
Stephen Drew, SS - Red Sox - Never healthy, never good.
Clay Buchholz, SP - Red Sox - Can't trust him. Too inconsistent.
Adam Lind, 1B/DH - Blue Jays - Won't be surprised to see a demotion.
James Loney, 1B - Rays - Can't hit for any power at a position where you need it.
Phil Hughes, SP - Yankees - Hyped up by the New York media when he won't give you an ERA under 4.00.
Players Guaranteed To Make Profit
Jacoby Ellsbury, OF - Red Sox - If healthy, could be MVP candidate.
Adam Jones, OF - Orioles - In his prime.
Melky Cabrera, OF - Blue Jays - Sabermetrics say that even without PEDs he still would have solid year.
