Meg Ryan Makes Directorial Debut with ‘Into the Beautiful’

"Hey Meg, is it going to be any good?" "Yes. Yes...! YES! YES!!! YESYESYESYESYES!!!" "I'll have what she's directing!"

Whatever happened to Meg Ryan? She straight up dominated the lucrative romantic comedy market in the 1990's, but she hasn't had a bona fide hit since 1998's You've Got Mail. The woman was quite literally America's sweetheart in the ancient era of one decade ago, and like most young sweethearts we've simply fallen out of touch with each other. Every once in a while we hear from mutual friends that she's up to something – "Oh, somebody remade The Women? Good for Meg!" – but we usually kind of avoid her because she reminds us of an age in which Addicted to Love actually seemed like a good idea.

But Meg's on the upswing now, and according to TotalFilm she's set to make her directorial debut with the new film Into the Beautiful which… sounds like something Meg Ryan would direct. The film is being touted as a 'comedy drama likened to The Big Chill,' and probably won't star the Courage Under Fire actress because hey, she's directing, damn it. The film is produced by Wendy Finerman, whose impressive resume includes such titles as Forrest Gump, Fairy Tale: A True Story and The Devil Wears Prada, and whose unimpressive resume includes The Fan, Stepmom and P.S. I Love You. So Meg's got about a 50/50 chance with this baby.

Meg, I know we never talk anymore, but not a day goes by that I don't think of what we had, and pine for the halcyon days of yore when you'd fake your orgasms for me. I wish you luck in this new endeavor. If you don't think it's too soon, you can add me on Facebook again.

Crave Online will be back with more Meg Ryan news because apparently there's still Meg Ryan news!
