Do you think you have the cooking chops to be the next Top Chef Canada? Well, more than a dozen new hopefuls think so – they'll be competing on season 2 of the Food Network Canada program for the coveted titled of Top Chef, which kicks off tonight.
"Most chefs are saying, 'It's going to be a piece of cake.' But when facing a challenge, the pressure and the lack of time to prepare anything, it's interesting to see what you can come up with," said season 2 competitor Xavier Lacaze to the Calgary Herald last month when the line-up of contestants was announced – he is the executive chef of Muse Restaurant and Lounge in Kensington."I don't know how I did it."
Canada's Top Chef for the second season will be crowned on June 4 and the winner gets to take home $100,000 in cash as well as kitchen appliances worth $30,000. More than 300 chefs applied to be on this season of the show and 16 made the final cut (three of who are women). The host and judges this year include mainstay and Canadian chef extraordinaire Mark McEwan, Lisa Ray (well-known actress, model, host, and activist), and Shereen Arazm (who is a vanguard of Los Angeles dining and entertaining, creating an unrivalled class of restaurants and lounges that are both local favourites and internationally recognizable Hollywood names). Season 1 of "Top Chef Canada" quickly became the highest-rated show in Food Network Canada's history and was renewed for a second season.
Watch the season 2 premiere of "Top Chef Canada" Monday nights on Food Network Canada starting at 10pm.
