Barely two weeks into the NBA season and the Los Angeles Lakers already have us on notice with the firing of Mike Brown. With the hiring of Mike D'Antoni, are the Lakers going to end up being the favorite to win it all? It sure is fun to speculate.
Falcons Drop First Game
The hardest thing to achieve in any type of sport for a season is a perfect record. Thanks to a solid all around effort by the New Orleans Saints, the Atlanta Falcons won't have to deal with that type of stress for the rest of the year.
With the Saints 31-27 win over the Falcons on Sunday, Atlanta recorded its first loss of the season, moving them to 8-1. Atlanta QB Matt Ryan had a career day in the loss, passing for a personal record 411 yards with three touchdowns and a pick, but it was the one yard he couldn't get that cost the Falcons the game. With a second-and-one on the one yard line with under two minutes to play, all Atlanta had to do was cross the goal line to take the lead. Three plays later, however, it was Saints ball and Saints' ballgame.
"It's very frustrating," said Falcons coach Mike Smith, who is 2-7 against the Saints and 49-15 against the rest of the NFL in his four-plus regular seasons as Atlanta coach. "We were close. … This will be something we will learn from."
Troubled Jets Get Routed By Seahawks
The trouble in New York continues on as the Jets suffered another bad loss, this time 28-7 to the Seattle Seahawks. Once again, Mark Sanchez looked terrible, going 9-22 for 124 yards and an interception in the loss, prompting more speculation that head coach Rex Ryan should bench him in favor of popular backup Tim Tebow. Whatever happens, it's pretty safe to say that the Jets are not going to be in the postseason this year.
