A comic-con staple of recent years has been the light-hearted DC Nation panel, led this time by DC’s Senior Story Editor Ian Sattler, featuring a panel of DC’s most relevant creators and editors. With Blackest Night currently in full force, there was sure to be a lot of questions on the minds of fans.
We were live in Panel Room B ready to have our minds blown by a fun panel that was to hopefully have some exciting announcements, but there were technical difficulties abound, and unfortunately the wonderful Baltimore Convention Center screwed us with no Wi-Fi. Though we would have loved nothing more to fulfill our promise of live updates during the weekend, unfortunately we got shafted.
Sattler started things off with a story about the local comics scene and finding naked Batman toys on the showfloor, while struggling to take advantage of the Baltimore Convention Center’s crap acoustics. The panelists are introduced, who include VP of Sales Bob Wayne, Green Lantern Corps and Blackest Night: Batman writer Peter Tomasi, Supergirl artist Jamal Igle, Blackest Night: Titans writer JT Krul, and Red Circle editor Rachel Gluckstern.
Things started off discussing the recent JSA vs. Kobra series, which led into a discussion of the upcoming Red Circle ongoing books. Gluckstern restated the announcement of the new Red Circle ongoings including The Shield, The Inferno, and The Web which will include a Hangman co-feature.

There was big news in that writer Angela Robinson is off The Web after the first arc due to an overstuffed work schedule, but Mark Guggenheim will be filling in as a guest writer, while Matt Sturges will eventually become the new ongoing writer.
Sattler moved down the panel line to JT Krul, who received big ups for his work on Backest Night: Titans. The George Perez variant cover for Blackest Night: Titans #3 was discussed, with Sattler and Krul simultaneously marking out for it, Krul even declaring it as the screensaver on his desktop. As is common in the DC Nation panels, Sattler gave us a tease regarding what Krul will be tackling post-Blackest Night, saying “he’s such a nice guy, and we’re making him write the most messed up book ever.”
