Ok let’s recap, Mary Marvel is back and born again hard (Lee Ermey would be proud), Jimmy Olsen is having terrible dreams, the Monitors’ are dead set on killing a bunch of people, and the Amazons were about to kick the mess out of Washington D.C. Hopefully you have been down to your local shop to get the goods on the Amazon aspect of the story. It looks like #46 book ends the Amazon story and get’s right back to main story action.
Jimmy Olson is featured again still following the leads generated from the deaths of Duela Dent and Lightray. The events that transpire after his meeting with Sleez seem pretty huge as it looks like Darkseid’s role in all this might soon be revealed. Holly Robinson also seems to be drawing closer to the major events going on in the series one issue at a time.
The most important moment in this particular issue seems to be that the Monitors have finally made their move and have begun to escalate issues at least on that front. What’s really interesting is that this is all unfolding rather soon into the series (relatively speaking) which leads me to believe that this is going to be huge. I can’t wait to see how Darkseid fits into all this.
I also want to mention that starting with issue #49 Dan Jurgens has been writing a side piece titled “History of the Multiverse” and so far it’s been real informative in the sense that it let’s newer readers get a good sense of how long DC has been dealing with this whole multi-universe angle in their comic continuity. Be sure to look out for these segments to help you make sense of all this.
The artwork in this issue is pretty solid and I noticed another significant difference in how the Piper was drawn. He seems to be the only character to look markedly different from issue to issue, it might be nothing, but it’s curious all the same. Oh, well with six issues in the can and many more on the way, Countdown is looking pretty good. See ya next week!
If Dante was a comic he’d want JMJ to draw him, with one super big arm, and then a regular sized one.
