I think it’s fair to say that our major comics have gotten relatively ‘heavy’ over the years. It’s cool and all that there is so much drama and tension in modern day comics but every once in a while a break from all that is in order. Enter the all ages title Dr. Doom and the Masters of Evil.

I’m not sure if this title is cannon, but what I am sure of is that it was a really funny read and that’s what is most important. The book is about Victor Von Doom and his attempt to rebuild the Masters of Evil (one of the silliest names in all of comics) by manipulating the Sinister Six.

The Six consists of The Vulture, Dr. Octopus, Sandman, Kraven, Mysterio, and the Chameleon. Each of them has spent time as comic relief at least once in their careers so this story works from page one. The team of Spider-Man villains gets beaten up by Doom as a way of ‘convincing’ them to work for him to their own benefit. It’s gratuitous yes, but funny none the less as everything is told in retrospect.

Iron Man and Dr. Strange guest star as well in a battle for the ages (not really but that sounded good) that left the bad guys on top. Mysterio is more powerful than maybe he gets credit for, at least in this issue he is.

The artwork is a perfect match for this easy going tale; all the facial expressions are priceless. Trust me this book is chock full laugh out loud moments that you don’t want to miss. Like I said before I’m not sure if this book is cannon due to the all ages tag, but it’s still very much worth it.
