If you read my columns then you know that I really hated Final Crisis, you might also know that I saw Legion of 3 Worlds as a way to save that failed attempt at an event comic. All my hopes for a great resolution to Final Crisis have been dashed by the biggest travesty in modern comics. The end of Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds was the biggest bunch of BS I may have ever read, this whole series is one EPIC FAIL!

If you hate spoilers then turn back now, because I don’t see how I can make my point without ruining the ending of the story. The story goes like this, Superboy Prime, who is responsible for the deaths of several characters has gotten free again and is currently running amok in the future. It’s up to Superman and more versions of the Legion than is really necessary to stop him.

There were so many versions of the Legion walking around that I couldn’t figure out which guy belonged to which team. I’ve read only a few Legion books so the confusion was compounded as the series went on. I didn’t mind being lost all that much but it was kind of annoying by series end.

The other major issue I had were all the resurrections. Conner Kent comes back to life along with Bart Allen who DC just went through a big production for when he died. I’m getting sick and tired of the revolving door in Superhero heaven. It makes stories meaningless when the ink on the original hasn’t even dried yet.

And then there is the ending where Geoff Johns breaks the fourth wall and brings back Earth Prime all at once. The cool reveal of issue four where we find out that Prime is the nefarious Time Trapper was turned into a nightmare when Johns had Prime and his future self touch each other and then become undone. Basically when Prime punched his older self it caused some sort of space/time rift that sent Prime back to his original planet.

Johns gives a lame explanation for why this occurred despite the fact that it doesn’t seem to work like that for anyone else. The whole thing felt rushed and very weak. The fact that we had to wait that long for that is also a huge slap in the face.

It turns out that on Earth Prime Superboy’s parents and girlfriend have been keeping up with his misdeeds by, you guessed it, reading about it in comics. This creates all sorts of problems for me and is in no way cool. It destroys the suspension of my disbelief and ruins an otherwise passable story. If anything you should read this story just to see how bad it is.

The biggest complaint about main stream comics is that nothing really ever changes for the major characters and this book is an example of that.
