Gog attacks!

Whenever I’m asked about a comic and whether I’d recommend reading it, I think of my three standby questions when evaluating titles.

Are the characters ones I’m interested in? Does it produce consistently good/generally well-written storylines? Does the art style work with the concept of the book? If the answer to those three questions isn’t yes, then I won’t recommend it. So with my criteria set, I can safely say that Justice Society of America is a book that I would HIGHLY recommend.

JSA #14 continues the trend of excellence established in the first 13 issues with its most intense issue yet as Gog takes the fight right into the midst of the entire JSA. And when I say entire, I mean it, with Gog going against 25 members of the Society in a huge free-for-all. As you’d imagine, it’s a pretty one-sided fight…but its Gog doing most of the damage as he tears through the teams strongest and most experienced, leading to an ending that is eye-popping and leaves you wishing for the next issue NOW.

The creative combination of Johns, Ross and Eaglesham continue to amaze me with their ability to balance character development with intense action and when you’re dealing with a cast as large as in this book, you have to be highly skilled to do that. They also manage to maintain this books relevance within the grand scheme of the DC universe by incorporating aspects of current storylines going on around the premier DC titles. You have references to both the third and fourth world as well as a possible clue towards figuring out what is “The Blackest Night” being tossed around in the Green Lantern books.

Tune back in next month for more Gog vs. the JSA with the special guest appearance of…nahh, not gonna tell you. Go pick up this issue to find out and join me in breathless anticipation of JSA #15.
