Film Company acquires the domestic rights to comic book movie.

Do you remember a little movie called Wanted? It was this awesome action film that was based on the comic of the same name. Despite the fact that comic had not finished its run when the film hit theaters what was delivered was a pretty good product. Here’s hoping the same can be said for Kick Ass, a comic book about a teenaged masked vigilante that hasn’t quite finished its run yet.

The book was written by Mark Millar and drawn by John Romita Junior and is one of our favorites here at Crave Online. Matthew Vaughn has been tapped as producer, director and writer of the screenplay along with names like Brad Pitt on hand to help produce. The original creators of the book are also on hand as co-producers.

The actors tied to the movie include Nicholas Cage and Chloe Moretz so the cast should be pretty solid. Early screens look good and things seem to be progressing at a nominal rate. That comes on the heels of news that Lionsgate has come in and swooped up the distribution rights for the US and Canada so it looks like this movie will not only see the light of day, but have a very strong backing to boot.

The film is currently in post production and was shot by Vaughn’s Marv Films and Plan B Entertainment (Pitt’s company). It looks like Lionsgate is shooting for a 2010 release; we’ll bring you more info as it develops.
